In keeping with our decisions of yesterday, the three of us went for a short day paddle today. We started out from Arnarstapi paddling in and out of caves and around rock formations for a couple of hours until the caves disappeared. There were birds everywhere, though they all seemed to be seagulls. It was a major nesting site for them, with nests wrappind up and around every pilar of rock and every rock wall. Seagulls never looked so cool. We planned on paddling farther, but as we rounded the next bend of the headland, the winds and seas picked up and made the paddling too dangerours for a leisurly day paddle. We headed back to clean gear and get everything loaded for the trip to Olafsvik. I finally got to see Ayeshah and Dalal today for the first time in a week. It was both uplifting to see them and heartbreaking to see them leave after a few hours, but alas, they had to get to the airport for an early morning flight. Before they left we managed to take in a couple of meals, do some grocery shopping, and Dalal and I got to jump in one of those big space jump inflatable things for children. It was the annual sailors day (like veterans day but they don´t have armed forces) so there were festivities all around. I ended the day alone in a tent at a campground much too far from the beach.
